Longbow Barns provides self catering accommodation in Dartmouth, South Devon. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, The South Hams, it is understood that a farm has existed on the site of Longbow Barns since Saxon times which was listed in the Domesday Book. It continued to be a working farm until 1974. It is also believed that the ‘Lord of Norton’ occupied the farm in Norman times and formed the centre of the Townstal community which was of great importance in Saxon times because the water margins were then still at risk from Viking raids. The larger barn originally consisted of round stone pillars (which are still part of the structure today) that would have been boarded in at the first floor level and open on the ground floor. The Elizabethan additions consisted of constructed archways between the pillars and the stonework above had Owlway windows installed in the first floor to encourage owls to occupy the upper floor where grain would have been stored. Today, the renovated accommodation is ideal for a holiday in Dartmouth.

The beauty of Longbow Barns is that it is an ancient dwelling with all the comforts expected of modern self-catering holiday cottages including wi-fi internet connection. The upper apartment is heated by electric night storage and optional central heating. The lower apartment is heated by gas central heating. All the bedrooms have their own bath or shower rooms, three of them are en-suite. There is ample parking on the large forecourt and both apartments have their own separate gardens with views over the roof tops of Dartmouth, the River Dart estuary and out to sea. The accommodation at Longbow Barns is available for weekly booking and short breaks subject to availability.

Longbow Barns apartments have their own private gardens with countryside, River Dart estuary and sea view. The lower apartment garden is accessed through the sitting room French windows and is south east facing with bbq patio and bench. The lawn has Chinese gazebo, garden furniture including table, chairs and sun-beds
Lower apartment sitting room.
The lower apartment sitting room is well furnished and cosy with three settees, coffee table, flat screen tv/dvd/wifi. It is centrally heated and double glazed with French windows to the patio and garden with views of Kingswear and the River Dart estuary. The sitting room is on the same level as the adjacent kitchen and easier for partially handcapped visitors. The passageway leads off to three bedrooms, all with their own bath-shower rooms.

The lower apartment kitchen diner is a good size: fully equipped with gas hob, electric oven, microwave, kettle and toaster, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washer-dryer and seating for eight-ten people. The kitchen is on the same level as the adjacent sitting room making easier access for guests who are partially handicapped. wi-fi internet access. Views to the garden and over the River Dart to Kingswear.
Lower apartment double bedroom.
The lower apartment double bedroom has a standard double bed and bedside table. There is a wash basin, a good size wardrobe, chest of drawers and chairs. Flat screen tv/dvd. Central heating and electric convector. The bedroom has it’s own large bathroom with bath/shower, wash basin, shaver point, w/c.

The lower apartment twin bedroom has 2 x three foot single beds with wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, chair, flat screen tv/dvd. Centraly heated with it’s own corner bathroom with shower, wash basin, shaver point, w/c.
Lower apartment en suite double bedroom.
The bedroom is quite small but cosy with a standard 4ft 6″ double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, marble top table with mirror, and flat screen tv/dvd. The en suite shower room is small but comfortable with wash basin, shaver point and w/c.
Lower apartment passageway.
The passageway has two small steps up to the small en-suite double bedroom on the right and one small step up to the twin bedroom on the left. Access to these bedrooms is easier for guests who are partially handicapped.

The lower apartment garden is south east facing and has views of the countryside, over the River Dart, Kingswear and out to sea. The garden access is through the lower sitting room French windows and on to the patio with bench. The garden has it’s own lawn with Chinese gazebo, table with chairs and sun beds.
Slapton Sands, three miles of unspoilt pebble beach that acts as a natural barrier protecting Slapton Ley the nature reserve, home to elvers, otters and many wild birds. This beach is steeped in WW2 history. At the southern end of Slapton there stands The Start Bay Inn, Torcross, famous for its fish and chips restaurant.
