Dartmouth is situated in the area known as The South Hams and famous for its sailing down through the ages.

The town stages events through out the year and today remains a busy working port with a variety of coves and beaches lying North and South of the town. Surrounded by beautiful Devon country side and villages, there are so many places to go.

Slapton Sands.

Slapton Sands, three miles of unspoilt pebble beach that acts as a natural barrier protecting Slapton Ley the nature reserve, home to elvers, otters and many wild birds. This beach is steeped in WW2 history. At the southern end of Slapton there stands The Start Bay Inn, Torcross, famous for its fish and chips restaurant. Slapton Sands is approximately 15 minutes drive from Longbow Barns along the A379 past Blackpool Sands.

Blackpool Sands.

Set in a sheltered bay and sign posted from Dartmouth on the A379. Approximately 10 minutes drive from Longbow Barns. Beautiful Blackpool Sands and the award winning Venus Cafe, located between Stoke Fleming and Strete. Situated within an unspoilt, sheltered bay amongst evergreens and pines is one of South Devons most natural treasures.

Thurlstone coastal village is located on a headland next to Bigbury Bay. Picturesque thatched cottages, shops and welcoming inns.


East Portlemouth beaches

East Portlemouth side of the Salcome Estuary has 3 fine sand beaches. Fisherman’s Cove, Smalls Cove and the main beach Mill Bay. The route is by narrow lanes and there is parking at £4.00 per day (80 spaces) Safe bathing. Seasonal Toilet facilities at Mill Bay & Fishermans Cove plus cafe, beach shop. Approximately 35 minutes drive from Longbow Barns.

Challaborough beach located next to Bigbury-On-Sea is a Blue Flag Beach with fine golden sands. At low tide there are rock pools and is safe bathing with life guards present during the summer season. About 50 minutes drive from Longbow barns.
