Longbow Barns provides self catering accommodation in Dartmouth, South Devon. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, The South Hams, it is understood that a farm has existed on the site of Longbow Barns since Saxon times which was listed in the Domesday Book. It continued to be a working farm until 1974. It is also believed that the ‘Lord of Norton’ occupied the farm in Norman times and formed the centre of the Townstal community which was of great importance in Saxon times because the water margins were then still at risk from Viking raids. The larger barn originally consisted of round stone pillars (which are still part of the structure today) that would have been boarded in at the first floor level and open on the ground floor. The Elizabethan additions consisted of constructed archways between the pillars and the stonework above had Owlway windows installed in the first floor to encourage owls to occupy the upper floor where grain would have been stored. Today, the renovated accommodation is ideal for holidays in Dartmouth.

The beauty of Longbow Barns is that it is an ancient dwelling with all the comforts expected of modern self-catering holiday cottages including wi-fi internet connection. The upper apartment is heated by electric night storage and optional central heating. The lower apartment is heated by gas central heating. All the bedrooms have their own bath or shower rooms, three of them are en-suite. There is ample parking on the large forecourt and both apartments have their own separate gardens with views over the roof tops of Dartmouth, the River Dart estuary and out to sea. The accommodation at Longbow Barns is available for booking weekly holidays and short breaks, subject to availability.

Longbow Barns apartments have their own private gardens with countryside, River Dart estuary and sea view. The upper apartment terraced garden has its own entrance and is south east facing with garden furniture including table and chairs, b b q, parasol, bench and sun-beds with it’s own lawn.

The upper apartment lobby is centrally heated and has coat stand, mirror, rest chairs and Chinese furniture: both the lobby and the landing lighting systems are operated by automatic sensors.

The upper apartment L shaped sitting room has three large picture windows with views of the Britannia Royal Naval College grounds, over the river to Kingswear, the surrounding countryside and the River Dart estuary. The room has two settees, Chinese furniture, tv/dvd/video/wifi and a dining table with seating for six.

The room is heated by night storage and has a good size en suite shower room with hand basin, shaver point and w/c. The upper apartment includes a king size en suite bedroom.

The upper apartment kitchen is all electric and fully equipped with cooker, kettle, toaster, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. Pots and pans, crockery + cutlery are all provided. There is a separate utility room with freezer and washing m/c at the end of the landing.

The separate upper apartment garden is terraced and mostly surrounded with shrubbed fencing and trees with views out to the River Dart estuary and sea. Outside furniture includes bbq, table and chairs for six, parasol, bench and sun beds.
Set in a sheltered bay and sign posted from Dartmouth on the A379. Approximately 10 minutes drive from Longbow Barns. Beautiful Blackpool Sands and the award winning Venus Cafe, located between Stoke Fleming and Strete. Situated within an unspoilt, sheltered bay amongst evergreens and pines is one of South Devons most natural treasures.
